Arrecifes combines tropical forest, impressive Caribbean scenery and some of Tayrona Park’s classic hiking trails.
It is reached on foot or horseback from the park entrance area and is an important stop on the route toward Cabo San Juan and other beaches inside Tayrona.
The sea at Arrecifes can have strong currents and is not considered a swimming beach, but the landscape itself makes it well worth discovering. From here, the trail continues through tropical vegetation and along the coast toward the beaches beyond.
Cabo San Juan del Guía is one of the most iconic destinations in Tayrona National Park, famous for its two beaches separated by a rocky headland and surrounded by tropical forest.
Cabo San Juan is often the main destination for travelers visiting Tayrona. From Taganga, an excellent way to experience it as a day trip is to travel there by boat and return through the park on foot.
The return journey takes you through the tropical forest toward the El Zaino entrance and is part of the Tayrona experience itself. The walk takes around two hours, passing beaches, palm trees and rainforest, where you may even spot capuchin monkeys in the trees.
This combination offers two very different perspectives of Tayrona in a single day: the Caribbean coastline from the sea and the tropical landscape from inside the park.
Accommodation and camping options may also be available inside the park for travelers who prefer to stay overnight, depending on current regulations and operating conditions.
Coming back from the Tayrona doesn’t have to be the end of your adventure.
